Apolemichthys kingi - This is a holy grail of angelfish. The Tiger or King Angelfish is uncommon in its wild habitat around South Africa, and was only relatively recently introduced to the aquarium trade. Because they prefer deeper water where dive conditions are rough, they've remained a rare species in the trade which few people have seen in real life. Thanks to the captive breeding efforts of our friends at Poma Labs, Biota is excited to be able to offer Tiger Angelfish bred and raised right here in the United States.

Captive bred Tiger Angelfish are well conditioned and hardier, even eating easy-to-feed prepared foods like Otohime C1 pellets. Poma Labs reports that these fish are very "solid" and ship well. It's very important for long term health to offer a wide variety of foods to these omnivores that includes angelfish specific foods, small pellets, frozen mysis, Spirunlina brine shrimp, and seaweed. Young fish should be fed an average of 3 - 5x a day.

This species is somewhat shy but semi-aggressive as an adult and reef safe with caution like others in the Apolemichthys genus. The maximum adult size is 8" - 10"; and the minimum aquarium size is 150 gallons for adults. It's imperative to use an acclimation box when introducing these young ~2" - 3" fish to a tank with established fish. Angelfish do best in a mature aquarium with large areas for grazing.

These fish can not be delivered on Fridays. During checkout, please choose on the calendar a delivery date on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday only.
